March 7, 2018 Darul Hikam International Boarding School located in Lembang, held “Culture’s Day 2018” event and invited seventeen UPI International Students. Once the visitors from UPI arrived, the principals, teachers, and students of Darul Hikam greeted all the guests.
The talkshow had four international students to share their experiences of living in Indonesia; Dinara-Ukraine, Laura-French, Saprolla-Philippine, and Shusuke-Japan. The event not only held the talkshow agenda, but also art performances that thrills all the participants to celebrate the crowd.
Been living in Indonesia for several months, it is very natural for them to feel deep longing toward the country they are originally from. The speakers also share what you can and cannot do in each country.
“It would be impolite if you ask about age and physics,” mentioned Laura as she stated regarding social practices in her beloved country of French.
Discussing about experiences of living abroad, the thing called “cultural shock” is fortunately inevitable. Shusuke mentioned about how rare toilet paper in most toilets of Indonesia. Familiarizing and understanding themselves with Indonesian language are most of their purposes to live in this multiculturalism country.
During their exciting experiences living in Indonesia until today, the key speakers stated that we have to love our culture and bring them to the world as part of nationalism. “When you kiss your teacher’s hand, I like this country’s respect to teachers,” said Saprol of Philippine. Shusuke give his thought of Indonesians being tolerant community to foreigners. “You should proud of your country and bring them to the world,” Dinara’s speech signified the end of talkshow.
The international students also experience and feel the fun of Indonesia’s traditional games such as Balap Karung and Bakiak with togetherness brought by Darul Hikam International Boarding School.
